PQV work to close eastbound I-70 in Topeka on Sunday

KDOT Press Release

Eastbound I-70 will temporarily close through downtown Topeka this weekend for work on the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Polk-Quincy Viaduct project.

Conditions permitting, eastbound I-70 will be closed between MacVicar Avenue and 6th Avenue on Sunday, July 13, from approximately 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The closure will allow crews to make traffic control and lane shift readjustments in the PQV project area.

The MacVicar Avenue exit will be the last open exit for eastbound motorists. Through traffic will follow signed detours and be routed south to I-470, or north to U.S. 75 to U.S. 24 to K-4. Drivers can use the local street detour: MacVicar Avenue to 6th Avenue to Monroe Street to the eastbound I-70 on-ramp.

Additional I-70 closures may occur if further work is needed on the viaduct. If necessary, KDOT will work with the City of Topeka to schedule the closure and provide information when available.

Both directions of I-70 will stay reduced to one lane until construction of the viaduct’s replacement is complete. More information about the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project can be found at ksdot.gov/I-70-Polk-Quincy.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/bureaus/offtransinfo/NENRelese.asp.
