Representative Sharice Davids is urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to approve an emergency waiver allowing the sale of E15 fuel in Kansas during the summer of 2025. E15, a fuel blend containing 10.5 to 15 percent ethanol, is a cheaper alternative to regular gasoline and is made from locally grown crops. Granting this waiver, as has been done in previous years, would help lower gas prices, support Kansas farmers, and strengthen domestic supply chains.
Davids has long pushed for year-round E15 sales, arguing it would reduce dependence on foreign oil, boost U.S. energy security, and benefit Kansas agriculture. She previously visited East Kansas Agri-Energy, a renewable ethanol producer in Garnett, which relies on Kansas corn farmers.
To lower gas prices, Davids has supported several measures, including:
- Voting for the Year-Round Fuel Choice Act, allowing retailers to sell higher ethanol blends year-round.
- Leading a bipartisan bill to expand access to affordable, homegrown fuel.
- Supporting biofuel infrastructure improvements to lower energy costs.
- Advocating for a federal gas tax suspension to provide immediate relief at the pump.
