Real Estate Scam

Wichita, KS – The Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the District Attorney has a warning for consumers concerning a real estate scam linked to a business claiming to be from Wichita.

The District Attorney’s Office Consumer Protection Division has received multiple complaints from individuals that have lost money in this scam. The victims indicated they were contacted by a business that claims to provide services to individuals looking to sell real estate or timeshares. The scam involves a person claiming to be with Asset Performance or Asset Performance Real Estate Group located at 200 E. William Street in Wichita.

Victims agreed to wire money out of the United States as part of the process of selling property or timeshares located in Mexico. The website https://www.asset performance.net/ deceptively portrays the company as being in Wichita; however, the address is not a valid location for a business. The Better Business Bureau has also issued an alert for consumers concerning the business, visit https://www.bbb.org/us/ks/wichita/profile/timeshare-resale-and-rental-marketing/asset performance-real-estate-group-0714-300281485 for more details.

The District Attorney reminds residents to research who you are dealing with as scammers are able to create websites that appear legitimate, but are in fact not connected to a real business. Scammers are able to fake or “spoof” a phone number to appear to be calling from a location, but the actual location can be in another country.

If you believe you have been the victim of an internet crime report it to local law enforcement and file a complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/Home/FileComplaint
