Recovery Efforts Continue in Hutchinson After Gas Explosion; Officials Work to Restore Services and Support Businesses

After a gas explosion destroyed Steffan’s Auto Parts in Hutchinson, recovery efforts are still ongoing. City officials are working to restore services and help businesses reopen, as stated at a media conference.

Kansas Gas Service has restored natural gas to most customers and finished installing a new ten-inch gas main. Once the gas line is fully secured, service restoration will begin.

Evergy reported that about 20 customers are still without power but is working with gas crews to prevent further interruptions.

Fire Chief Steven Beer confirmed that by Monday afternoon, the fire department had completed its support operations.

Mayor Stacy Goss acknowledged the concerns of residents and business owners, stressing the emotional toll of evacuations and the uncertainty around service restoration. She emphasized the importance of continued coordination between the city, first responders, and utility companies.
