Red Cross Calls for Support on Giving Day as Disasters and Blood Shortages Rise

The American Red Cross of Kansas urges the public to help those facing disasters by donating on Red Cross Giving Day, March 26.

In the first 50 days of 2025, Red Cross volunteers responded to more disasters than days, including snowstorms, tornadoes, wildfires, and home fires in Kansas. Weather has also caused more uncollected blood donations than in all of 2024.

How to Help:

  • Make a Financial Donation: Red Cross Giving Day aims to rally 30,000 donors. A $3 donation provides a comfort kit, while $11 covers a meal. Those giving $140 or more in March receive a Red Cross monopack or socks. Donate at redcross.org.
  • Give Blood or Platelets: Weather-related disruptions have strained the blood supply. Schedule an appointment at RedCrossBlood.org, on the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

In addition, the Red Cross is offering free A1C testing for prediabetes and diabetes with successful blood, platelet, or plasma donations throughout March.
