Red Cross Honors Military Community with Support Services and Resiliency Programs During Military Appreciation Month

For over 140 years, the American Red Cross has supported service members, veterans, families, and caregivers through every stage of military life. As the nation observes Military Appreciation Month this May, the Red Cross honors their sacrifices and the dedicated volunteers and staff—many with military ties—who serve the military community.

In Kansas and Oklahoma alone, more than 200 individuals have taken part in Red Cross Resiliency Program workshops this year. Led by licensed behavioral health professionals trained in military culture, these free workshops offer tools for stress management, small-group discussions, and emotional support.

At McConnell Air Force Base, the Red Cross recently hosted a workshop for staff at the Military and Family Readiness Center, helping to strengthen care for military families.

Through programs like the Hero Care Network, the Red Cross provides emergency communication, financial assistance, and vital services around the clock. Staff and volunteers also serve at over 150 overseas military sites, offering in-person support, wellness activities, and connection to resources.

This May, the Red Cross encourages everyone to turn appreciation into action. To explore volunteer or career opportunities, visit redcross.org or contact your local Red Cross chapter.
