Registration opens March 1 for the 2026 Walk Kansas program, an eight-week health challenge offered by Kansas State University Extension. The program helps people build healthier habits through exercise, better eating, and overall wellness.
Walk Kansas runs from March 22 through May 16. People can join from Kansas or anywhere else. Most participants join as teams, but individuals can sign up too. Teams can be any size, though four people works best.
Participants log their activity minutes or steps online. The system converts activity to miles. Every 15 minutes of activity or 2,000 steps equals one mile.
The program encourages at least 150 minutes of moderate activity each week — meaning you can talk while exercising, but not sing. It also suggests strength exercises at least two days a week.
Participants track fruit and vegetable intake and receive weekly emails with simple tips on fitness, stress, sleep, and healthy eating, plus recipes. Webinars cover wellness topics like gut health and workplace habits. The cost is $10 per adult. Youth through high school can join for free. Teams can include friends and family from anywhere.
