U.S. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas has introduced the One Flag for All Act, a bill that would prohibit any flag other than the American flag from being flown, draped, or displayed on federal buildings, with certain exceptions.
The legislation is cosponsored by Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, and Roger Wicker of Mississippi. Representative Diana Harshbarger of Tennessee is sponsoring a similar bill in the U.S. House.
Senator Marshall first introduced the proposal in 2023 after a Pride flag was displayed between two American flags at the White House. He said the bill aims to ensure that only the U.S. flag is the primary symbol displayed on federal property.
The measure would allow exceptions for certain flags, including the POW/MIA flag, flags of U.S. states and tribes, military units, visiting diplomats, and those marking national observances such as 9/11.
Marshall said the legislation seeks to honor and protect the American flag as a symbol of national unity and freedom.
