In an interview with KFRM, Rep. Tracey Mann discussed ongoing work on a major reconciliation bill, known as the “big beautiful bill,” which includes key policies on tax relief, border security, national defense, and transportation infrastructure. Without congressional action, tax increases are set to take effect in January, including hikes on income, capital gains, and estate taxes—changes he says would hurt agriculture. He emphasized the importance of preserving a high estate tax exemption for farmers and ranchers.
As part of the legislation, savings were identified to allow new investments in the Coast Guard and modernizing air traffic control, while remaining mindful of taxpayer dollars. He also highlighted upcoming efforts in the House Agriculture Committee to strengthen crop insurance, ag safety nets, and reduce waste in nutrition programs.
On tariffs and trade, Rep. Mann expressed support for Trump’s strategy to renegotiate trade deals, especially with China, citing a worsening ag trade deficit under the Biden administration. He said Congress is prepared to mitigate any negative impacts on producers from tariffs and stressed the need for fair trade conditions.
Rep. Mann also backed the Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act, recently passed by the House, which streamlines reimbursement for veterans defrauded of benefits. He called it a needed fix with bipartisan support and pledged strong oversight of its implementation once signed into law.
Lastly, he stressed the urgent need for a five-year farm bill to give producers stability amid high input costs and low crop prices, saying he’s repeatedly urged Congress to act. He closed by praising farmers and veterans for their essential roles in supporting the nation.
