Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced that the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Project Eagle, a Head Start program, received a $5.68 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The money will help continue early education and family support services for children and families in Wyandotte County.

“Head Start programs are one of the smartest investments we can make — for our kids, our families, and our local economy,” said Davids. “They provide affordable early education and care that working parents can count on, help children build the skills they need to succeed, and create good-paying jobs for educators right here at home.”

Davids is focused on lowering costs and improving child care access for Kansas families. She supported expanding the Child Tax Credit last year, which helped 136,000 Kansas children. She also visited local child care centers to see how federal funds support their work.

Project Eagle has served Wyandotte County for over 35 years, focusing on the health and education of pregnant women and young children. Head Start programs help children succeed in school and life, with benefits like higher graduation rates and college completion. Since 1965, Head Start has helped over 40 million children nationwide.
