Representative Sharice Davids has been named Ranking Member of the General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit Subcommittee of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee. The National Crop Insurance Services, based in Davids’ district, plays a vital role in providing farmers nationwide with essential risk management tools, highlighting the significance of her leadership in this area.
The subcommittee oversees policies related to commodity programs, crop insurance, and agricultural credit, key elements in supporting Kansas agriculture. As one of the nation’s top agricultural states, Kansas depends on strong federal programs to manage risks, navigate market unpredictability, and provide producers with necessary resources.
As the Farm Bill reauthorization progresses, Davids plans to focus on expanding risk management tools, aiding beginning and underserved farmers, and strengthening financial support for rural communities. Her appointment reflects her commitment to tackling challenges facing Kansas farmers, including extreme weather, market fluctuations, and rising costs. To support Kansas agriculture, Davids has brought U.S. Department of Agriculture Undersecretaries to the Third District to discuss issues facing the meatpacking and dairy industries. She also led a Farm Bill listening tour and convened over 20 stakeholders, including former Senator Pat Roberts, to push for a Farm Bill that benefits all Kansans. In 2022, she was recognized as a Friend of the Farm Bureau by the Kansas Farm Bureau.
