Rep. Sharice Davids Opposes Government Funding Package, Warns of Harmful Impact on Kansas Families and Economy

Representative Sharice Davids voted against a government funding package that she believes does not support Kansas families and could have harmful effects on the country. She opposed the package’s provision allowing unlimited spending for the next two years, which she called unprecedented. Davids continues to push for bipartisan cooperation to avoid a government shutdown and protect essential services for Kansans.

She was also disappointed that important provisions were removed, including measures to protect American businesses from foreign interference by China, lower prescription drug costs, and support Kansas’ agricultural economy through year-round E15 sales.

Davids pointed out that the bipartisan negotiations were disrupted by the influence of President-elect Trump and Elon Musk. She warned that if Congress doesn’t pass a bipartisan funding bill, Kansas could face serious consequences, such as:

  • Service delays for Kansans relying on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
  • Almost 20,000 federal workers in Kansas might be furloughed, causing a loss in productivity.
  • Disruptions to food assistance programs like SNAP, impacting vulnerable Kansans.
  • Delays in loans for small businesses.
  • Longer airport security lines and flight delays.

Earlier this week, Davids urged House leadership to remove a controversial cost-of-living adjustment and focus on keeping the government open. She also pushed for disaster assistance for Kansas farmers and a one-year extension of the Farm Bill to reduce uncertainty for the state’s agriculture community.
