With the current Farm Bill expiring today, Monday, September 30, Representative Sharice Davids called on Congress to unite and pass a new bipartisan Farm Bill that supports Kansas farmers and rural communities. Davids stressed that action is crucial to safeguarding the future of Kansas agriculture.
Earlier this year, Davids supported several ideas in the proposed Farm Bill that would benefit Kansas’ agricultural economy but voted against a partisan version that had no chance of passing. She continues to push for the return of bipartisan negotiations, which have traditionally shaped the Farm Bill.
To prepare for the Farm Bill reauthorization, Davids went on a listening tour, visiting farms, co-ops, and renewable energy producers across Kansas. She also engaged with students, industry leaders, and farmers to discuss financial programs and the future of agriculture in the state.
While the Farm Bill’s expiration doesn’t cause immediate issues, Congress must act by year’s end to prevent outdated price controls from affecting dairy prices and to ensure long-term stability for Kansas agriculture.
“Kansas farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our nation, but without reauthorizing the Farm Bill, we’re leaving them and Kansas families in limbo,” said Davids. “There’s too much at stake to play political games — we need a serious, bipartisan bill that strengthens crop insurance, supports agricultural research, and ensures our farmers and families can thrive. I remain committed to following the Kansas tradition of bipartisan agricultural policy and getting this across the finish line.”
