Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann brought together leaders from the aviation and aerospace sectors, along with industry stakeholders and local, state, and federal officials, to talk about the future of aviation in Kansas. Congressman Sam Graves, who chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, also attended and spoke at the event.
During the meeting, participants discussed how federal policies affect the aviation and aerospace industries, the importance of general aviation and infrastructure for rural and agricultural communities in Kansas, and the need for a strong talent pipeline to keep Kansas as the Air Capital of the World.
“Kansas has a long history with aviation and has become a pioneer in the industry,” said Rep. Mann. “Now more than ever, it’s crucial that Kansas continues to lead the world in the innovation and development that has made America the gold standard of aviation. I appreciate those who gathered with me today to discuss how Congress can continue to support and empower Kansas’ leadership in the industry. The success of aviation and manufacturing did not come to Kansas overnight, it came together over decades of teamwork, talent development, training, buy-in, and innovation. I’m excited to continue that momentum to further our posture over the next century.”
At the event, Kriya Shortt, President and CEO of Textron eAviation, announced that the company will conduct flight testing for its Nexus eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) full-scale technology demonstrator aircraft at Salina Regional Airport (SLN) in partnership with the Salina Airport Authority.
