Rollins, Marshall, and Mann Host Roundtable in Plains, Discuss Federal Support for Agriculture and Future Priorities

Monday night in Plains, Kansas, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas, and United States House of Representatives member Tracy Mann held a roundtable discussion on agriculture.

The event was hosted at High Plains Ponderosa Dairy in Plains and attended by several members from the local ag community, along with a host of industry leaders and spokespersons from various Kansas agriculture associations.

As reported by KGNO, Secretary Rollins concluded the roundtable by outlining her plan to reduce federal interference in agriculture while still providing necessary support to producers.

“First of all, this is the best part of my job, honestly. We’ve  got a beautiful building in Washington and, you know, rolling into the White House is always fun, but being out here with all of you and learning about all of these issues and then what we can do to go back and to get out of your way when it’s necessary and to provide support when it’s necessary,” said Rollins.

Secretary Rollins outlined her passion and vision for the Department of Agriculture. She stated that her vision is to realign the department around why it was initially created, to provide the support that is needed, but also to ensure the government has its proper role in all of that. She then stated her mission and purpose for her next steps.

“For me, this is more than just showing up and listening and checking a box. These are all action items for me and for this team. And having incredible partners like Doc Marshall and Congressman Mayen is obviously really important, but my commitment is to take all of this, take it back to our team, and make sure we’re doing everything we can,” said Rollins.

Rollins’ priorities include shaping dietary guidelines, overseeing meat plant inspections, negotiating trade deals, combating wildfires, and more.
