The Kansas City Royals are moving to secure a key part of their infield for the future. The team has agreed to a five-year contract extension with third baseman Maikel Garcia, with a club option for the 2031 season, according to sources. The deal is pending a physical and has not been confirmed by the club.
Garcia is guaranteed $57.5 million, with the total value able to increase through incentives and the option year. The extension covers Garcia’s arbitration years and at least one free agent season.
The 25-year-old is coming off a breakout 2025 season. He hit .286 with 16 home runs, 74 RBIs and 23 stolen bases while earning his first All-Star selection and a Gold Glove at third base.
Garcia will now remain paired on the left side of the infield with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. through at least the 2030 season.
