Royals Players Give Back to Local Youth During Holiday Event

Royals players Carter Jensen and Noah Cameron helped make the holidays special for 12 Kansas City-area teenagers last week through a surprise shopping event. The group, part of the Urban Youth Academy, was invited to what they believed was a simple meet-and-greet at a local Dick’s Sporting Goods. Instead, Jensen and Cameron announced each teen would receive a $500 gift card to shop for new gear, followed by dinner.

The players spent time helping the teens choose equipment, offering advice on bats, cleats and shoes. Jensen even pointed out the cleats he wore during his first Major League hit. Teammates Bobby Witt Jr. and Michael Wacha also contributed, allowing the gift amount to increase.

Both Jensen and Cameron, Kansas City-area natives, said giving back to the community where they grew up made the event especially meaningful.
