Seventeen-year-old Royals prospect Kendry Chourio delivered a standout performance Thursday for Single-A Columbia, throwing five perfect innings in a 3-0 win. The right-hander struck out four and needed just 56 pitches, rebounding from a difficult outing last week. Signed out of Venezuela in January, Chourio now owns a 3.05 ERA with 50 strikeouts and only two walks in 41 1/3 innings across two Minor League levels.
Elsewhere in the Minors, several top prospects made headlines. Ryan Waldschmidt (D-backs) homered twice for Double-A Amarillo, while Detroit’s Max Clark hit his 10th home run of the season with Erie. Boston’s Jhostynxon Garcia cleared the fences for the 20th time, and Reds shortstop Tyson Lewis connected for his first career grand slam.
For Kansas City, Chourio’s outing is another sign of progress in a system looking for young pitching depth to support its developing core at the Major League level.
