Salina Hosts Jaded Thunder Military Exercise, Bringing Increased Aircraft Activity

Salina and nearby communities will experience a significant increase in military activity as more than 600 service members arrive for Jaded Thunder, a joint-service training exercise. Personnel from the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command will train together, focusing on mission coordination and integration.

The Salina Regional Airport’s proximity to the Smoky Hill Weapons Range provides a key advantage, allowing military aircraft to minimize transit time and maximize training hours. This location offers access to realistic training scenarios, supported by strong community backing.

Residents may notice increased aircraft activity and occasional noise as units conduct training with ordnance. The Salina Air Traffic Control Tower will oversee all flight operations to ensure safe and coordinated airspace use.
