CCCHS senior, Jace Weller, overtook a 70-year school record by finishing the 200-meter run in 21.78 seconds. The record was previous set in 1955 by Bill Tillman.
In the same meet, Weller took his PR in the 100-meter race when he broke 11 seconds, finishing in 10.82 seconds. The current record of 10.8 seconds was set by Jake Richter in 2003. Coaches are also investigating times to compare the difference between Richter’s hand time, which may have been faster than what he was credited for, vs. Weller’s electronic stat.
Weller also holds the school record for the 400-meter, breaking his own 2024 record by hitting 48.85 seconds earlier this month.
Bill Tillman was a three-year letter winner who graduated in 1955. He broke records in high and low hurdles. His 220-yard record had been standing since 1932. He ran the 100-yard dash (91.44 meters) in 10.1 seconds. Once in a dual meet, he finished in 9.75, but the time went undocumented due to high winds working in his favor.

CCCHS senior, Lauren Smith, broke the school 400-meter time on April 25th at the Abilene Varsity track meet. It was also the first time she broke 57 seconds in a meet. The previous school record was held by Garla (Chaffee) Pierson, whose time of 58.3 seconds was set in 1979.

The quad also broke their own record from last year’s time of 54.48.

Chase Urban, 8th grader at CCCMS, broke another school record in pole vault by clearing 11’ 10”. He stands with his coach, Peyton Lane, who held the previous record with 11’ 9”. Lane’s record was set in 2014.
Urban had tied the record earlier this month after hitting 11’ 6” before overtaking it a few weeks later.
