Sen. Moran Highlights Kansas Priorities in Brook Rollins’ Secretary of Agriculture Confirmation Hearing

Senator Jerry Moran participated in a three-and-a-half-hour Senate Agriculture Committee hearing to evaluate the nomination of Brook Rollins as Secretary of Agriculture in the Trump administration. Rollins received strong bipartisan support, and Moran anticipates her confirmation by a majority of Republicans and many Democrats.

Calling the hearing productive, Moran praised Rollins’ performance and focused his questions on issues vital to Kansas farmers, emphasizing that these challenges mirror those faced by agricultural communities across the nation.

Sen. Moran’s first priority was disaster and economic assistance programs passed by Congress and signed into law in late 2024.

“They now have to be implemented and it’s important that they do it right. I wanted to highlight for her the way the program was intended, the way we wrote the law and she certainly committed and said they’re already on their way toward making the decisions about the disaster assistance headed in the direction that, in my view, is most valuable to Kansas farmers,” said Sen. Moran.

Moran also highlighted the need for timely communication of program details to assist farmers and bankers in planning for the 2025 growing season.

“She is confirming that that program will be implemented and that they are working on it now which means that they should get done sooner rather than later,” he said.

Moran expressed optimism about Rollins’ commitment to supporting American agriculture, particularly in Kansas, as her confirmation process progresses.
