U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. introduced a resolution to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States Army, recognizing its historic contributions from the American Revolution through the Global War on Terror.

The resolution pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of soldiers and veterans, including those from Kansas military installations Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth. Senator Marshall marched alongside 450 soldiers from Fort Riley’s 1st Infantry Division—known as the “Big Red One”—during the Army’s 250th birthday parade in Washington, D.C., on June 14.

A veteran himself, Senator Marshall was honorably discharged from the National Guard as a Captain in 1991. Military service runs deep in his family, with his son, brother, father, and grandfather all having served in the U.S. Army.

Kansas plays a central role in Army history. Fort Leavenworth, founded in 1827, is the oldest military installation west of the Mississippi and home to the U.S. Army’s Combined Arms Center. Fort Riley, home of the Big Red One, has led the charge in numerous conflicts dating back to World War I.

Marshall has long supported the military, including championing the FIRST Act, which added 631 names of fallen Big Red One soldiers to the First Infantry Division Monument.
