Senator Roger Marshall Announces Key Committee Assignments for 119th Congress, Including Senate Finance Committee Role

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. has announced his committee assignments for the 119th Congress. He will retain and advance in seniority on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, as well as the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), and the Senate Budget Committee. By staying on the Agriculture Committee, Senator Marshall will play a key role in advancing the Farm Bill and ensuring Kansas’ agricultural priorities are addressed. Additionally, Senator Marshall is honored to join the Senate Finance Committee for the 119th Congress.

Marshall released the following statement on his 119th Congress committee assignments.

“The American people spoke loud and clear about their top priorities: cost of living, safety, and security, and restoring the American dream. With this mandate in mind, I am excited to work with the Trump Administration to deliver on these promises and turn things around. We will quickly deliver a Farmers First Farm Bill on the Agriculture Committee and help our Kansas producers. On the HELP Committee, we will address our health care system’s cost and access challenges. In the Budget Committee, I am committed to addressing our nation’s greatest long-term threat: our historic national debt crisis. Now, as a member of the Finance Committee, I am proud to have a seat at the table as we extend President Trump’s successful Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and ensure free and fair-trade agreements, address tariffs, and beyond. On all of these committees, I will be the megaphone for Kansas’ priorities and make sure Kansans have a voice at the highest levels of government.”

U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo welcomed Senator Roger Marshall to his newly appointed role in the Finance Committee saying:

“In the 119th Congress, the Finance Committee will play a critical role in driving a strong economic, trade and health policy agenda,” said Chairman Mike Crapo. “Roger brings a wealth of necessary experience to aid in the Committee’s efforts to expand access to affordable, quality health care, promote pro-growth tax policy and advance a strong trade agenda.  He will provide Kansans with an important voice as the Committee develops policies and exercises oversight on the many issues that affect all Americans.”

The Finance Committee holds the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional committee, overseeing more than 50 percent of the nation’s budget. This includes entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, all tax policies, international trade, various welfare programs, and the nation’s debt.
