Senator Roger Marshall is advocating for the return of whole milk to school lunches, arguing it provides essential health benefits. He recalls drinking fresh whole milk from his grandfather’s farm and worries that today’s children, who have gone without it since its removal from schools in 2012, may face increased risks of osteoporosis earlier in life.
“You know, in my humble opinion, milk is the healthiest drink known to mankind, and it’s so healthy for you. It helps with brain development, it decreases your appetite, it helps you absorb fat soluble vitamins like A, D and K. It’s been out of our lunches for too long and we’re trying to get it back in as another option for children. It’s certainly a better option than sugary sodas,” said Senator Marshall.
He believes restoring whole milk as a school option would offer a healthier alternative to sugary sodas.
