State investigators are reviewing a police shooting that occurred Friday night in Basehor. Local officers requested state assistance around 10:20 p.m., bringing in special agents and crime scene teams. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) released that the incident began earlier when deputies responded to a report that a resident had been threatened. The suspect was described as driving a white SUV. Deputies soon located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Shots were fired from the SUV during the chase, and a deputy later crashed after more shots were fired.

The pursuit ended when the SUV collided with another car. A man got out and shot at a deputy, who returned fire. The woman driving the SUV was arrested at the scene. The man ran off, broke into a home while trying to hide, then escaped again before deputies found him in a truck bed and arrested him on a prior warrant. Both are expected to face additional charges as the investigation continues.
