Sunflower Summer: Keeping Kansas Attractions Free for Families

Sunflower Summer, a program offering free access to over 220 museums, zoos, parks, and other attractions across Kansas, is not only an educational initiative but also a significant economic driver for the state. The program fosters state pride, strengthens communities, and provides enriching experiences for families.

In 2024, the program saw impressive participation, with 500,000 tickets claimed and 150,000 families taking part. The program’s economic impact is substantial: for every $1 invested by the state, Sunflower Summer generates an estimated $5, benefiting jobs, small businesses, and local sales tax revenues. In addition, 76% of participants bought meals, 72% made purchases at local stores, and 20% stayed overnight in Kansas communities.

Other states are now looking to replicate Kansas’ success. Residents can support the initiative by signing the petition for full funding, contacting their legislators, and spreading the word through social media.
