Sunflower Summer, a program offering free access to over 220 museums, zoos, parks, and other attractions across Kansas, is not only an educational initiative but also a significant economic driver for the state. In 2024, the program saw impressive participation, with 500,000 tickets claimed and 150,000 families taking part. The program’s economic impact is substantial: for every $1 invested by the state, Sunflower Summer generates an estimated $5, benefiting jobs, small businesses, and local sales tax revenues. In addition, 76% of participants bought meals, 72% made purchases at local stores, and 20% stayed overnight in Kansas communities.
