Sweeney Retires After 22 Years, Felice Named New K-State Rowing Head Coach

Kansas State women’s rowing head coach Patrick Sweeney announced his retirement Sunday after 22 seasons. Assistant coach Kennedy Felice will take over as head coach.

Sweeney led the Wildcats to 11 Kansas Cup wins and multiple top-three Big 12 Championship finishes. His athletes also earned numerous academic honors, including four Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. Sweeney, a former Olympic medalist, joined K-State in 2003.

Felice, a Manhattan native and former team captain, has served as an assistant coach for the past five years. She rowed for K-State from 2015 to 2019 and helped the team win back-to-back Kansas Cups.

Sweeney will remain with the program for a short time in an advisory role.

K-State Athletics Director Gene Taylor said Felice’s experience and leadership made her the clear choice to lead the program into its next chapter.
