AAA projected that almost 82 million people will be on the roads and in the skies this Thanksgiving holiday.
“And most of them are going to be driving a car,” Kansas Highway Patrol officer Tod Hileman said. “Thanksgiving is our most traveled holiday.”
Hileman warns that drivers should account for more delays due to the number cars on the roadways and especially as they encounter areas of construction that are ongoing in parts of the state.
“On Thanksgiving, most people travel either the day before or on Thanksgiving,” he said. “And then they’re traveling home on Thanksgiving or the day after.”
For the winter holidays, Thanksgiving is the shortest with few people choosing to stay away from home for more than a couple days.
“Most people take a lot of time off around Christmas,” he said and reminded travelers to be patient and mindful of traffic laws as they make their way to gatherings.
