Top Pick Gamble Joins Royals, Starts Next Chapter

By Jayson Henderson

Sean Gamble grew up watching games at Kauffman Stadium. On Friday, the Royals introduced him as their first-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Gamble, 19, signed with Kansas City last week for a reported $4 million bonus. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, he was selected 23rd overall out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Gamble visited the Royals’ clubhouse and walked the field Friday, nine years after attending his first MLB game there as a fan.

He’ll begin his pro career in Arizona and could join an affiliate later this summer. A left-handed hitter and versatile defender, Gamble is expected to play both outfield and second base.

The Royals have now signed 20 of their 21 picks. Only 19th-rounder Dylan Wood remains unsigned.

Gamble said putting on the Royals jersey for the first time was meaningful—but added the real work is just beginning.
