A 47-year-old man suspected in a Topeka bank robbery died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a multi-county police chase, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The FBI identified the suspect as Anthony Marshall, Jr.
Authorities say Marshall was accused of robbing the Equity Bank on Southwest 29th Street in Topeka on Monday. On Tuesday around 10:14 a.m., Kansas Highway Patrol troopers joined law enforcement in Marion County in a pursuit of the suspect.
The chase began in Marion County and spanned multiple counties, eventually ending near the Bridgeport exit off I-135 in Saline County. After the pursuit, Marshall was taken to a Salina hospital, where he died.
Several agencies assisted in the chase, including sheriff’s offices from Saline, Marion, and McPherson counties, and police departments from Hillsboro, Lindsborg, Salina, and McPherson. Despite the wide law enforcement response, the FBI is leading the ongoing investigation into both the bank robbery and the events that followed.
