Two Kansas State University faculty members have been chosen for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program for the 2025-2026 academic year. Shawn Hutchinson, a professor of geography and geospatial sciences and co-director of the Institute for Digital Agriculture and Advanced Analytics, will take his research to the United Kingdom, while Ryan Hansen, an associate professor of chemical engineering and Wayne and Barbara Harms keystone research scholar, will conduct his work in Australia.
Hutchinson will spend spring 2026 at the University of Nottingham’s School of Geography, focusing on improving ecosystem service assessments in grasslands using geospatial technologies to better measure the benefits of these landscapes for sustainable land management. He will also contribute to teaching and work to strengthen partnerships between K-State and the University of Nottingham, leveraging expertise in geography, geospatial technologies, agriculture, and environmental science.

Hansen will work at the University of Technology, Sydney, developing hydrogel materials for targeted delivery of therapeutic bacteria to treat gastrointestinal cancers. He will also deliver guest lectures at the UTS School of Biomedical Engineering and aim to foster institutional collaborations.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program enables faculty, researchers, and professionals to conduct research or teach abroad, expand international networks, and build partnerships between institutions. Scholars often continue collaborations initiated abroad and support global exchange initiatives upon returning home.
