Two Kansas schools have been recognized in 2024 by the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program for their exceptional achievements. Sterling Grade School in Sterling USD 376 earned recognition in Category 1 for exceptional student performance and academic growth over two consecutive years. Overbrook Attendance Center (K-3) in USD 434 Santa Fe Trail was recognized in Category 2 for closing the achievement gap between student groups.
The National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program, managed by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA), honors schools that have made significant strides in improving education through effective use of federal funds. Sterling Grade School received this distinction for the second time, having been previously honored in 2016. Overbrook Attendance Center’s recognition marks the first time a school from Santa Fe Trail USD 434 has earned this honor.
Both schools will receive a commemorative award package and be featured on the ESEA Network website. They will also be recognized at the National ESEA Conference in February 2025.
