USDA Announces $2 Million for Risk Management Training to Empower Farmers and Ranchers

The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) has announced up to $2 million in funding for cooperative agreements to support risk management training programs for American farmers and ranchers. This funding enables organizations like universities, cooperative extension offices, and nonprofits to develop educational tools that help producers manage long-term risks effectively.

Since 2021, RMA has invested over $17.1 million in risk management education, reaching 1.25 million producers through more than 2,200 workshops. These efforts have informed new initiatives, such as enhanced hurricane insurance products and expanded coverage for specialty crops, aquaculture, and controlled environments.

Eligible organizations can apply through the Risk Management Education Partnerships Notice of Funding Opportunity on Grants.gov until March 11, 2025. Selected partners will deliver training on crop insurance options, financial management, disaster preparedness, and more.

In 2023, RMA provided a record $207 billion in crop insurance protection, strengthening the farm safety net under the Biden-Harris administration. These efforts ensure broader support for producers, including those in specialty sectors.
