Cleanup efforts are underway for a second day in Grinnell, Kansas, following a powerful tornado that tore through the community Sunday night, destroying much of the town’s west side.

Reporter Chad Wolf was on location and reported that more than 700 volunteers arrived Monday to help with the cleanup, but work was cut short in the afternoon due to the threat of showers and lightning. Despite their dedication, progress has been slow given the scale of the destruction. Local officials are once again asking for volunteers.

“If you plan on showing up to volunteer ask to check in at the Grinnell VFW on the east side of town. Also, if you have large equipment that you’d like to check in, do that at the VFW as well. Donations are pouring in at the VFW with food and supplies, but more are always welcome,” reported Wolf. “One thing I think they’re doing pretty good on is water. If you have plans to donate monetary donations they can be made through or set up to the city of Grinnell. Chex can be wrote to the city of Grinnell with the memo of donations. You can also contact equity bank in Grinnell. I’m sure equity banks other locations would be able to help you out as well. But again, another big day in store for Grinnell as clean up continues.”

Community members are grateful for the outpouring of support, including thoughts, prayers, donations, and time from volunteers. Continued help is needed in the days ahead.
