Washburn University Tops Kansas Public Regional Rankings, Recognized for Low Student Debt and Midwest Excellence

Washburn University announced it has been named the top-ranked public regional university in Kansas by U.S. News & World Report. The university also earned recognition for having the lowest student debt among its Kansas peers and ranked among the Top 25 Public Schools in the Midwest.

Washburn University is recognized in the 2026 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings for its commitment to student success and low student debt. Graduates carry the least debt among Kansas public regional universities and rank fifth lowest in the Midwest.

The university’s scholarship programs, including the Shawnee County Thrives Scholarship, Shawnee County Promise, and Northeast Kansas Advantage Scholarships, help make college more affordable.

Washburn ranks 24th among public regional universities in the Midwest, 74th overall regionally, and 35th for veterans.
