When the clock strikes noon

The Marysville Public Library hosted a Noon Year’s Eve party on December 31. Yes, you read that correctly attendees celebrated the arrival of the new year at noon instead midnight.

“For a lot of museums and different venues over the last 5 years or maybe more,” April Todd, library assistant the MPL, said. “[It’s] a fun way to make it a family-friendly event.”

The celebration included a couple of games and plenty of music but as the time got closer to noon, a special video Todd found on YouTube started to play.

“They have a lot of options out there if you search for them,” she said. Todd selected a kid’s countdown with dancing animals that partygoers could dance along with.

“We had noisemakers so it got pretty loud for a while in the library,” she said. “But the kids had a blast when it actually hit noon.”

While the library has had similar New Year’s celebrations in the past, this was Todd’s first year to organize it.

“I think we had a great turnout and it seemed like families really enjoyed it,” she said.
