Kansas State came up short in a 51-47 loss to No. 12 Utah on Saturday in Salt Lake City, despite setting a school record with 472 rushing yards. The Wildcats led 47-35 after Joe Jackson’s 24-yard touchdown run with seven minutes remaining, but Utah scored the final 16 points to complete a late rally.
Utes quarterback Devon Dampier sealed the game with a 1-yard touchdown run in the final minute. Utah also returned a two-point conversion attempt and added both a rushing and passing touchdown during the comeback.
Jackson had a historic performance, rushing for 293 yards and three touchdowns, breaking Darren Sproles’ single-game school record from 2004. Quarterback Avery Johnson added 72 rushing yards, a touchdown, and 102 passing yards with another score.
Kansas State totaled 574 yards of offense, but Utah’s late surge proved too much. Safety VJ Payne led the Wildcats’ defense with 10 tackles.
