Winter weather in Colorado is affecting road conditions and is expected to persist through Saturday morning, potentially impacting drivers in both Colorado and Kansas. As of 6:30 a.m. Friday, I-70 in Kansas remains open, though sections of the highway in western Kansas were closed Thursday evening due to conditions in Colorado.
If weather conditions worsen in Colorado, closures could be reinstated along I-70 in Kansas, starting in Goodland and extending eastward as truck parking and accommodations fill up. Other highways in western Kansas may also be impacted.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) advises motorists to check the KanDrive.gov website for real-time updates on highway closures and weather conditions in both states. KDOT also recommends drivers carry emergency kits with essentials such as clothes, blankets, food, water, and other supplies to stay prepared.
