Bobby Witt Jr. avoided a serious injury after being hit by a pitch in the Royals’ 7-6 win over the Mariners on Wednesday. X-rays showed no fracture, but he has a left forearm contusion and will be monitored in the coming days.
In the fifth inning, Witt was hit by a 95.9 mph fastball from Mariners reliever Andrés Muñoz. He fell to the ground in pain, holding his left arm, but walked off with manager Matt Quatraro and a trainer. Quatraro said Witt had already been scheduled to leave the game soon.
Witt initially lost feeling in his fingers but later said it was returning. He stayed in the dugout briefly before heading to the clubhouse.
Outfielder Nelson Velázquez also left in the fifth with a calf cramp. The Royals will check on his status Thursday.
