Bobby Witt Jr. played a key role in the Royals’ 3-2 win over the Mariners on Thursday night. After striking out twice earlier in the game, Witt tied things up in the seventh inning with an RBI single, setting a new Royals record with a 23-game road hitting streak. He then stole second base, his 24th of the season, putting two runners in scoring position.
Vinnie Pasquantino followed with a single to right field. Jonathan India scored easily, and Witt raced home behind him. Although the throw beat him to the plate, Witt avoided the tag with a creative slide, touching home with his right hand to give the Royals a two-run lead.
That run proved important. Carlos Estévez allowed a solo homer and two singles in the ninth but struck out Julio Rodríguez and forced a groundout to end the game. Estévez earned his 24th save of the season.
