The Wichita Public Schools Board of Education approved the sale of Clark and Payne Elementary Schools during their September 8, 2025 meeting.

Clark Elementary was sold to Wichita Classical School for $600,000. The school will serve as the upper campus for grades 7–12, maintaining its connection to the local community. Renovations are set to begin immediately, with plans to open as early as January.

Payne Elementary was sold to Pyxis, Inc., a provider of mental health, foster care, and other support services for children, for $415,000. The organization will use the space to expand services, with renovations starting immediately and a move-in expected within six months.

WPS’s Real Estate Sale Committee, composed of district staff, local business owners, and community members from both neighborhoods, reviewed proposals based on community impact, intended use, price, long-term benefits, and project timeline.

Both schools were closed at the end of the 2023–24 school year to reduce budget expenditures, address facility maintenance needs, and support long-term district planning amid shifting student populations.
