The Abilene Board of Education has approved contracting with DCS Services to manage the replacement of the aging elevator at Abilene Middle School.
Superintendent Dana Sprinkle said the elevator, installed in 1975, is on the district’s deferred maintenance plan and needs its internal mechanics replaced.
Sprinkle emphasized that the elevator remains operational but is essential for daily student access to the gym, STEM lab, and locker rooms, making proactive replacement necessary.
She recommended DCS Services due to their expertise and past work with the district. The firm will handle project scope, budgeting, bidding, and installation oversight. Although CMS services add cost, the board agreed that professional management is necessary, targeting completion in summer 2026.
