Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Division of the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.8% in April, which is unchanged from March.
The unemployment rate in Clay County slightly decreased from 3.6% in March to 3.2% in April. Across the area, the jobless rate in Dickinson County dropped 0.2%, to 3.7%. Cloud County dropped from 3.5% to 3.4%. Marshall County dropped 0.3%, to 3.1%. Republic County had a small increase, from 2.9% to 3.0%. Washington County dropped half a percent, from 3.7% to 3.2%.
Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 1,400 from March. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs increased by 1,500 over the month, while government decreased by 100.
