Items Discussed During the Clay Counts Coalition Monthly Meeting on Mar. 11th

Lesley Hayward with Healthy Blue Kansas presented on Healthy Blue, a Medicaid managed care plan that offers health insurance for individuals on Medicaid or KanCare. Along with comprehensive health coverage, members can receive additional benefits, including ride support, OTC item allowances, and more. Healthy Blue will also pay for children’s Scout fees. Ylink’s upcoming projects include a ‘Do Not Do Tobacco’ Prevention party on March 27th, along with an ‘Unlabeled’ Book study with author Jonathan Sapaugh on April 7th. On May 8th, they plan to host a ‘That’s MORE Entertainment’ movie night on the CCCHS football field.

Allie Fitzgerald with the Health Department gave an update on the upcoming Community Baby Shower. The Baby Shower will take place Saturday, April 11th, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. She stated they have more people signed up this year, and the Baby Shower is not just for Clay County residents.

More than 120 people attended the ‘Screenagers’ viewing at Garfield Elementary on March 10th. If a group is interested in seeing the movie, contact Matt Weller.

Nikki Burwell with the Health Department gave an update on the Community Garden. The first meeting for the year is set for this Saturday, and all 12 garden beds have been spoken for.  Burwell is writing a grant to try to add 6 additional beds. CCCHS senior Jacob Cutshall is currently building an arbor for the garden as part of his Scouts project.

Lori Martin and Matt Weller went over the Coalition’s DFC 26/27 Project Abstract. The plan is due to DFC by the end of the month. The Abstract can be found in the Clay Counts meeting minutes on its website.

The next meeting is set for Wednesday, April 8th, at the Clay Center Zoo Welcome Center at noon.
