May Unemployment Rate Shows Little Change Across Area

Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Division of the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.8% in May, which is unchanged from April.

The unemployment rate in Clay County remained unchanged from April at 3.2%. Across the area, the jobless rate in Dickinson County remained at 3.7%. Cloud County dropped from 3.4% to 3.0%. Marshall County dropped 0.2%, to 2.9%. Republic County had a small increase, from 3.0% to 3.2%. Washington County dropped a percent, from 3.2% to 3.1%.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 1,800 from April. Private sector jobs increased by 1,900 over the month, while government decreased by 100.
