Riley County Offices to Close January 9 for National Day of Mourning Honoring President Jimmy Carter

Riley County

In accordance with the county’s policy regarding national holidays, most Riley County offices will be closed on Thursday, January 9, to honor the late President Jimmy Carter on the National Day of Mourning proclaimed in his memory.

President Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was a dedicated public servant and humanitarian. His leadership, commitment to peace, and tireless efforts to promote human rights leave a lasting legacy.

“President Carter embodied the ideals of service, humility, and compassion,” said John Ford, Chairman of the Riley County Board of County Commissioners. “We honor his memory and contributions to our nation by observing this day of mourning and reflection.”

While most county offices will be closed, the Riley County District Court will remain open to accommodate a previously scheduled jury trial, which will proceed as planned. The Riley County Transfer Station at 1881 Henton Road will also remain open. Emergency services, including Riley County Emergency Medical Services and Riley County Fire District #1, will be available during the closure.

Regular operations for all other county offices will resume on Friday, January 10.
