Janae Wolf, owner of Janae’s Cookies, started her business a little over six months ago. The idea began two years ago when Wolf, a 4-H member, brought decorated buttercream sugar cookies to the Clay County Fair.
“I always got asked if I sold them and it put the business idea in my mind. I taught myself how to decorate cookies and created my own designs,” she said, adding that she also used Pinterest for inspiration.
Decorating cookies became a creative outlet for her. “In December of last year, I decided to go for it and sold Christmas cookies. I had a variety of winter designs people could purchase.”

Now, she regularly accepts custom cookie orders.
Wolf just finished her junior year of high school at Clay Center Community High School (CCCHS) and will be a senior this upcoming school year. When asked if this is something she plans to pursue as a career, she said, “Although I love decorating cookies, it is not something I will pursue full-time. I will most likely continue it as a side business.”
Right now, Wolf only offers buttercream sugar cookies. She has experimented with cakes and cupcakes, but she focuses on custom-decorated cookies.
More information and photos of previous cookie orders can be found on her Facebook page, “Janae’s Cookies.” Customers can also reach out to her there with any questions.
