48 Blood Donors Gave During Recent Clay Center Community Blood Drive

By Ryan Duey

Every day patients of all ages rely on blood donors throughout the world. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Whether battling cancer, having heart surgery, had an accident, or are a burn victim, blood donated by caring donors gives patients a chance of recovery.

On Friday, May 24th, 48 registered donors gathered at the Catholic Parish Center in Clay Center during its Clay Center Community Blood Drive. Of the 48 donors, thirty-one units of whole blood were collected, and thirteen units of Power Red were collected. Donuts were provided by Tasty Pastry, and Carole James, Garry Stenzel, and Marty Stenzel ran registration.

Data shows that one unit of blood can save up to three lives. The Catholic Parish Center will hold its next Blood Drive on Thursday, July 25th. Visit the Red Cross Website for information on giving blood, to find a Blood Drive near you, and to schedule an appointment to give.
