August Unemployment Rate Shows Little Change Across Area

Preliminary estimates from the Labor Market Information Division of the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.8% in August, unchanged from July.

The August unemployment rate in Clay County is 4.0%. Across the area, the jobless rate in Dickinson County is at 4.4%. Cloud County is down a half point from July at 3.6%. Marshall County shows a rate of 3.5%. Republic County is at 3.3%. And Washington County is down .3% from July, at 3.7%.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 4,700 from July. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. The largest job gains in the private sector were in leisure and hospitality (+600 jobs). The largest decrease was in trade, transportation, and utilities (-2,100 jobs).
