The Clay County Animal Rescue & Education Center (CCARE) and The Mothership Consignment & Thrift Shop in Clay Center are collaborating to bring a ‘Purses for Paws’ fundraiser to the community.
Now through December 13th, CCARE will be accepting new or gently used purses, wallets, or totes to repurpose and resell, with proceeds going to CCARE. John Rieb, Shelter Manager, spoke about this two-phase fundraiser.
“For Phase one, we’re asking folks to go through their old purses, wallets, or tote bags, and if they’re no longer in need of them, to go ahead and donate them to CCARE.”
“Phase two is after they’re all cleaned out and ready to go, we are going to drop them off at the Mothership for them to be put on sale over there.”
“After everything’s sold, all the proceeds will come back here to CCARE. We are really excited about this new adventure with them.”
Donated items will be sold at The Mothership starting in January. Rieb said once they sort through the items, any purses, wallets, or totes not worthy of selling will be donated if they can be.
“Anything that we decide that we probably won’t be able to use, we could donate elsewhere to like the Lighthouse, things like that.”
“You can bring in as old as you want to go back purse-wise, you can bring them in. We’ve already had quite a few people bring in some purses and tote bags: all kinds of different styles, brands, and colors.
“Anything that’s gently used, whether it be a purse, a wallet, or a tote bag, we’ll take it.”
Patrons are asked to drop off their items during CCARE’s open hours, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
